The Best Use For Your Coffee Habit

We have all become accustomed as a culture to downing our morning coffee to perk us up and then rushing off to work. New scientific studies have now shown that large doses of morning coffee drinking is the improper way to tap in to the power that is caffeine. The results from some sleep disorder studies have shown that you are better off having your caffeine in a larger number of small cups that continue throughout the day. Furthermore, your caffeine intake is even more effective when it comes later in the day. It was shown that people will drink smaller amounts of coffee throughout their whole day were more apt to keep from falling asleep, and they also performed better on cognitive tasks while showing no change to their nightly sleep patterns.

The cultural phenomenon that we know as corner coffeehouses have schooled us in the wrong use for our daily caffeine in coffee intake. It is widely accepted to have several cups of coffee in the morning, but the effect on your body will be a big crash from caffeine is your day progresses. The issue stands as to how your body will be able to handle the second half of your day without a caffeine boost in while also struggling to recover from a large coffee intake from the morning. When you look at how sleep patterns work, you can see that the circadian system that monitors your sleep works on a rhythmic cycle. What that means to you is that your inner body clock will release a sleep inducing melatonin hormone in various cycles. Caffeine was given a bad rap for disrupting sleep patterns because it was thought to block the receptor for adenosine. There were several participants in a sleep study that were kept awake for longer periods of time and then given a caffeine pill to push them to stay awake, and the study showed that the participants that were taking a lower dose of caffeine did much better on the cognitive tasks than those that were taking the placebos.

Overall, what this will mean to you is that your coffee habit does not have to suffer, but instead just needs to be utilized to a further advantage to promote better performance throughout your day. Not only is a delicious, fresh cup of coffee something that you can always enjoy, but this caffeinated beverage can also be a tool to keep you moving throughout a long day. This does not mean that you need to overdo it and constantly make yourself jittery from drinking too much coffee throughout your day, but you can change your coffee drinking patterns to small doses over a longer period of time so that you are always operating on all eight cylinders. Coffee is actually something that should be enjoyed and does not need to be overdone to substitute for healthy lifestyle. When you are already taking care of your body, drinking coffee sporadically throughout the day will be a natural enhancement you'll be thankful for. That sounds like something that I can work with!

Peaberry Coffee - Tips on Brewing a Perfect Cup

Brewing coffee, especially Hawaiian peaberry beans is an art indeed, though many people think that it is very easy. In fact, not everyone can brew a perfect pot of coffee with rich consistency and amazing aroma. There are some secrets and keys from properly storing the beans to special techniques of brewing tasty gourmet drink.

What you should consider while buying and storing Peaberry beans?

First of all, you should decide what you will buy: green beans, roasted beans or ground coffee. Some people buy green beans and roast them themselves on their roasters at home, while others prefer buying ready roasted beans or even ground coffee.

While storing the beans, pay attention to place them in a bottle or ceramic bowl and keep away from light and dampness. They are the main enemies to the quality of any grade.

Note: It is recommended to keep whole beans, because ground coffee doesn't store well. The process of brewing this tasty beverage can be very easy for some people, while others think that it requires special knowledge and skills. In fact, if you know some little secrets, you can consider yourself a master of coffee brewing.

Who wouldn't like to start their morning with a cup of freshly-brewed gourmet drink that will add something special to the routine?

So here are some useful tips on brewing a perfect cup of Hawaiian Peaberry Beans:

1. If you have whole beans, first grind them. Only grind the necessary amount of coffee you need for today's brewing. As a rule, you may use either a coarse grind for a French press or medium grind for a drip coffee-maker. However, experts believe that it is best to grind Kona beans to medium.

2. Use purified or fresh spring water that tastes best and is better for your health. Remember that 98% of brewed coffee is water. It would be better the water is cool while pouring it into the coffee maker to save the specific taste during the brewing process. The recommended temperature for brewing is 190 - 205 degrees F.

3. The usual ratio for brewing is 2 tbl. spoons of ground coffee for every 6 oz. of water.

4. The best brewing time is considered to be about 4 minutes.

5. Be careful with filters. Many coffee lovers prefer gold filters or French press pots for brewing a perfect cup of tasty drink. According to coffee connoisseurs, paper filters can affect the aroma and taste of the product. Sometimes these filters can even cause specific paper taste in your freshly brewed coffee.

6. Make sure to clean the machine thoroughly after each time you use it. Otherwise, even little residues on the filters and the pot can significantly reduce the quality of the beverage you brew.

Buy Coffee Online - The Top 3 Reasons to Purchase Direct From Hawaii

Have you ever thought why more and more people buy coffee online from Hawaii suppliers?

Here are top 3 reasons why you should purchase beans online from exotic Hawaii islands:

1. Get the Best Quality Kona Coffee Available.

Hawaiian Kona beans are notable for its high-quality taste which you will remember forever after drinking even only one cup. Kona coffee is grown on the dry side of Big Island, the largest among all the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaii is known not only for its wonderful travel spots, but also for its world-class Kona Peaberry beans that is highly appreciated by many coffee lovers all over the world. Why is Hawaiian coffee so special and very different from Brazilian, Colombian beans or blends of other countries?

The main secret of its popularity is special climate that is found only in the Kona district of Hawaiian Islands.

Tropical climate (warm, sunny mornings and misty afternoons) allows cultivating the royal coffee beans. Besides, unlike other coffees, Kona coffee is picked by the hand to ensure cherries are fresh and ripe enough. But some producers use machinery when the cherries are not absolutely ripe in order to get fast harvest. Therefore this Kona gourmet drink has special taste, aroma and moisture content.

2. Hawaiian coffee is 100% pure and full-bodied.

Do not hurry to purchase in your local shop where you will likely find only mixed blends (containing beans of various countries and only a small amount of pure Kona coffee beans). However you may ensure the quality of the package by looking at the label on it. There you will see the percentage of Kona beans included in the product.

But if you get coffee straight from exotic Hawaiian Islands you can ensure that the taste and aroma you will get from a cup of that gourmet beverage will remain in your mind forever. This hand-picked crop is the most highly-valued coffee in the world. The key to having such a royal taste and aroma is that Hawaiian producers pick beans only when they are enough ripe to be gathered. Therefore as a result, a consumer gets 100% pure hand-picked beans which you cannot say about your typical store bought commercial brands.

3. Ideal Climate of Hawaii islands.

The perfect blend of all the six elements comprising of rich soil, proper elevation, cloud cover, sunshine, rain and a moderate slope helping in the drainage of the roots provided by the Hawaiian islands, have ensured an ideal environment to produce some of the richest coffee in the world. One cannot find the specific combination of all these factors even in other regions of the Hawaiian Islands. Not to mention other countries of the world!

Now you understand why thousands of people who want to purchase this gourmet beverage online choose Hawaii as the source to get the best and freshest beans that you will not find in your local stores.

Kona Peaberry Coffee - What Every Coffee Drinker Should Know

Peaberry coffee is the most sought after type of Hawaiian Kona beans. And among the islands here, only Kona produces the gourmet peaberry beans.

If you are reading this article you are most likely from those who cannot imagine their daily life without a cup of tasty and spirit lifting aromatic coffee. But are you drinking really pure coffee or commercial blend? Today there are so many kinds of coffee in the market that you may become confused while choosing the best-quality product.

So read on to find out why your #1 choice should be peaberry beans grown in Kona. If you like this drink, and you haven't tried Kona peaberry beans, you are missing the Holy Grail of coffee drinking experience.

Why is Peaberry coffee so unique and different from other blends?

The perfect blend of all the six elements comprising of rich soil, proper elevation, cloud cover, sunshine, rain and a moderate slope helping in the drainage of the roots provided by the Hawaiian islands, have ensured an ideal environment to produce the world's richest product.

There is hard work behind this award winning Kona coffee. The unique combination of climate and nature is not the only necessary term to grow most highly valued in the world product.

The other secret of this gourmet treat is the special technology of production. Cultivators cannot mechanically harvest trees, as they are grown in rocky location and besides, the 'cherry' does not ripen all at the same time. So in order to get perfect crop, every bean is picked when ripe. Otherwise, a few immature or overripe beans can significantly reduce the quality of the total harvest. Therefore this type is considered to be the highest grade coffee all in the world by many connoisseurs.

Why is Kona Peaberry coffee more expensive?

It is considered to be "Extra Fancy" and this kind of gourmet treat costs much more. Why? - Because this is a denser and bigger bean, and not only that, but you are also getting a rare bean which accounts only for about 5% of the total harvest. Did you know it takes about 300 pounds of Kona coffee to harvest 1 pound of peaberry beans?

Being a real miracle of nature, peaberry beans develop when the cherry gives only one bean instead of 2. In other words, unlike a simple bean, it is not round on one side and flat on the other.
The most beneficial feature of this amazing grade is that unlike regular beans, it contains the minimum level of acid.

Some coffee experts even believe that the cylindrical shape of the peaberry bean causes it to be roasted differently compared to a simple bean. And this makes them more tasteful, aromatic and more expensive.

Some helpful hints for online buyers:

- Before buying a package ensure the label shows it's 100% pure Kona Peaberry Coffee.
- Do not confuse Hawaiian Kona beans with Hawaiian beans. Unlike Kona coffee, the label of Hawaiian beans could mean that it has been grown possibly in other regions of Hawaii, but not in Kona.

Coffee's Health Benefits

For years, the news about coffee vacillated between positive and negative. At the same time, study after study extolled the health virtues of tea. But a flurry of new research suggests that coffee offers nearly as many health perks while protecting against a number of diseases.

All this is not to suggest you should start gulping endless cups of java if you're not already a coffee lover. After all, excessive coffee intake may have a downside for some people. But if you like your daily "cuppa joe," you can take some pleasure in knowing your coffee habit has finally been vindicated.

Antioxidants and More

A few years back, headlines trumpeted the news that coffee was the number one source of antioxidants in the American diet. It earned that claim not because it's richer in antioxidants than fruits or vegetables, but because we drink so much of the stuff.

One of the prime antioxidants in coffee is methylpyridinium, which may help protect against colon cancer. This may explain the findings from a recent study that found women who drank three or more cups of coffee a day had half the risk of colon cancer as that of nondrinkers.

Another coffee antioxidant, chlorogenic acid, has been shown to inhibit liver cancer. In one study, for every two cups of coffee the participants drank, there was a 43 percent reduced risk of liver cancer. This same substance slows the intestines' absorption of glucose and might help explain coffee's protective effect against type 2 diabetes

Here's something else you probably didn't know: Coffee is the main dietary source of the trace element boron. Biologist Curtiss Hunt at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center found that an eight ounce cup of instant coffee contains about 57 mcg. of boron. An essential nutrient for plants, one study found that dietary boron reduced the amount of insulin in the blood required to maintain proper glucose levels. Plus it's one of the minerals necessary for strong bones.

Coffee is also a surprising source of more familiar minerals and nutrients, including chromium, magnesium and niacin. What's more, a cup of coffee contains about one-third as much potassium as found in a small banana.

Coffee and Heart Health

Additional antioxidant compounds in coffee - caffeic, p-coumaric, and ferulic acids - may curb cardiovascular disease by protecting low-density lipoproteins (LDLs, the "bad" cholesterol) from oxidation, fending off inflammation and improving blood vessel function.

In 2006, Norwegian researchers found that older women drinking one to three cups of coffee daily were 24 percent less likely to die of cardiovascular disease than non-drinkers. Another study in 2007 found that people age 65 and over who consume four or more servings of caffeine daily had a lower risk of death from heart disease.

But curb your enthusiasm. Because the caffeine in coffee has a short-term elevating effect on blood pressure, people who drink one cup after another may keep their blood pressure high for periods long enough to risk heart trouble.

Coffee's long-term effect on blood pressure has long been debated, and should be weighed against any possible benefits. A 2007 Finnish study of 24,710 healthy men and women, ages 25 to 64, found that over an average 13.2-year follow-up period, those drinking two to three cups of coffee daily were 29 percent more likely to start drug treatment for high blood pressure. The lesson here? Moderation is key when it comes to coffee, if you suffer from hypertension.

Brain Benefits

Anybody who's experienced coffee's morning wake-up call to the brain knows that it can temporarily help sharpen thinking. But coffee may also boost brain function in more lasting ways. A European study of 676 healthy men found that those consuming three cups of coffee daily suffered significantly less cognitive decline over 10 years than non-drinkers. And in 2007, a French study concluded that older women who drank at least three cups of coffee daily were 18 percent less likely to develop problems with verbal recall and 33 percent less prone to memory problems. And new evidence shows that middle-aged coffee drinkers slash their risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer's disease later in life compared with those drinking no coffee or only a little. In fact, those who drank three to five cups a day cut their risk by an impressive 65 percent!

Other research shows that coffee may defend against Parkinson's disease. A notable Finnish study found that drinking 10 cups of coffee a day slashed the risk of developing Parkinson's by as much as 84 percent. Researchers suggested that the caffeine in coffee might stimulate dopamine, the brain chemical lacking in the disease.

From Gallstones to Gout

Coffee also seems to protect against both gallstones and kidney stones. In two large studies, people who drank two to three cups a day of caffeinated coffee were less likely to develop gallstones than nondrinkers. Decaf coffee didn't protect against gallstones, but it did keep kidney stones at bay, perhaps simply by boosting total liquids.

And then there's gout, a painful inflammatory condition that first attacks the big toe and then spreads to other joints. In the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, Harvard researchers found that coffee consumption was linked to a lower blood level of uric acid - the substance linked to this type of arthritic disease. People who drank six or more cups a day were 40 percent less likely to develop gout. Decaf was also linked to a modest reduction in gout, suggesting that something other than caffeine could be credited.

One Last Thing ...

Despite coffee's growing list of benefits, the caffeinated version still may not be ideal for some people. If you're concerned that coffee is keeping you up at night, try decaf or drink it earlier in the day. However, if you suffer from gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), be aware that decaf coffee has been shown to aggravate reflux as much as the caffeinated kind.

Caffeine is also often mentioned as a trigger for migraines, so sufferers should moderate their intake. Less clear is whether caffeine can aggravate arrhythmias or raise the risk of breast cancer in women with benign breast disease. The latest findings from Harvard's Women's Health Study suggest an increased risk for women who drink four or more cups of coffee daily. However, in the Iowa Women's Health Study, no link was found.

While the jury is still out on these few potential problems, the news is generally good for people who enjoy coffee. The news is so positive, in fact, that coffee may be the new milk with the ability to claim that it "does a body good!"

Research Brief ...

It's common knowledge that most people tend to gain weight and lose bone as they age - neither of which is particularly healthy. But here's the problem: If you try to lose unwanted weight, it only promotes more bone loss - increasing the risk of fractures and the dangerous complications that accompany them. The dilemma then is how to lose those extra pounds without doing damage to your bones. A study designed to answer that exact question provides some answers.

The research, from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and Pennsylvania State University, studied 130 men and women, aged 30 to 65. The people in the one-year study ate one of two low-calorie diets: A reduced-calorie diet that provided either the currently recommended intake of 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight, plus two servings of low-fat dairy a day, or 0.64 grams of protein per pound of body weight with three daily servings of low-fat dairy.

The researchers found that the weight-loss diet with nearly twice the recommended amount of protein and three servings a day of low-fat dairy not only improved calcium intake, but was much more effective at preserving bone mass during weight loss - especially when compared to the lower protein (and higher carbohydrate) weight-loss diet. These findings add to the growing amount of evidence that high-protein diets do not leach calcium from bones, as long as calcium intake is adequate. So, when you cut back on calories, be sure to get plenty of high-quality protein, including three servings of low-fat dairy a day, to protect your bones while you're paring pounds.

Choosing the Right Coffee Bean

Coffee once an exotic drink has now become a common drink and a vital part of many people's day. If you have graduated from merely viewing coffee as a caffeine fix to a rich and complex drink then you will want to learn more about the beans that go into making your daily cup of Joe. Well the first fact you will learn that the precious beans that make your daily brew is in fact a seed and not a bean at all.

Location, Location, Location

When it comes to choosing your favorite coffee beans it all comes down to where the coffee beans were grown. Generally beans can be classified into either the Arabica or Robusta species of bean. However you will see that most coffee comes labeled according to where it was grown.

This is because the soil, environment, and climate all influence the taste of the coffee at the end of the day. You will find that the Robusta variety is more commonly available and may also be cheaper. If you would like to taste some of the finer beans then you will want to buy Arabica for your next cup of coffee.

The Roast

Equally important to the location and the quality of the coffee beans you buy is the type of roasting process the beans undergo. Different types of roasts determine the flavor and intensity of the coffee. If your taste buds do not like the stronger coffees then look for an American roast. This is a nice middle ground to start appreciating coffee. This type of roast produces a medium bodied coffee and is found in most homes across America.

If you are feeling adventurous and would like to venture into the world of more full bodied roasts then look for Brazilian roast beans. This is a darker bean than the American and has a fuller flavor. If the Brazilian roast is still not strong enough for you then you can try beans that have been French roasted.

The first thing you will notice when buying French roast beans is the color, a French roasted bean will have a color that is similar dark chocolate. When you make coffee with this type of bean you will see a little of the bean oil on the surface of your drink, this is perfectly normal and means that you have bought well roasted beans.

When you have graduated to a true coffee connoisseur then you will appreciate the Espresso roast. The espresso roast will have a very distinct flavor and some people can't handle the taste. This comes from the roasting process where the beans are nearly burnt. Espresso is usually served in small cups because it produces very strong coffee.

Drinks

The way your coffee beans are prepared will also determine the taste and flavor of the coffee. This is an important step and there are now many ways to enjoy your favorite drink. Italian coffees have become very popular and most restaurants and cafes will serve coffee this way, whether cappuccinos, lattes, or macchiato.

Storing Beans

If you have gone to the trouble of selecting the right bean for you and your taste buds then it would be a shame to waste the precious beans with bad storage. Whenever possible you should buy whole roasted beans. You can buy whole beans in bulk and freeze what you cannot use immediately for months.

On the other hand you will only be able to keep ground coffee beans for a few weeks in an airtight container. So to prolong the life of quality beans make sure to put off grinding until you actually want to drink the coffee.

Coffee Grinders - Pick the Highest Quality Grinder Available If You Love Great Coffee

These days more and more of us are finding that the coffee we drink at home is far to disappointing to contemplate in comparison the espresso based drinks we find at the local cafe.

This has lead many of us to the realization that we are going to have to buy a good coffee machine for the house. Of course if you want to achieve that great taste of freshly ground coffee you're going to have to pick up a quality coffee grinder at the same time.

How To Pick A Coffee Grinder

Go to any online coffee machine retailer and you'll find a huge range of different types of coffee grinders at varying price points. If you haven't done any research on which models are best you may be tempted to purchase something that retails for $30 but this would be a mistake if you value the coffee you drink.

If you have an excellent espresso coffee machine in the house then you are going to need a coffee grinder that can produce very finely ground beans to get the flavor you are looking for. The cheaper models use blades to "chop" the coffee beans up which results in an inconsistent grind at a fineness which is not acceptable for an espresso machine.

What you need to do is spend a little extra money and get a high quality burr coffee grinder. The burr models use two revolving metal disks to gently grind the coffee beans down to the desired consistency without heating the oils in the beans.

These machines will seem expensive in comparison to the blade models but if you are looking to buy a coffee grinder which will give you many years uninterrupted service and the best possible taste then it pays to make an investment in the best you can afford.

When your brand-new coffeemaker that you ordered arrives in the mail, I know that you feel like a proud parent excited to try your first delicious cup

When your brand-new coffeemaker that you ordered arrives in the mail, I know that you feel like a proud parent excited to try your first delicious cup on your new machine! But as time and life progresses, there is a natural wear and tear that will build up minerals on the inside of your coffeemaker called scale. That is what I am referring to in "descaling" your coffeemaker because it is a process that will remove the damaging effects of hard water that built up during the brewing process. One thing that you can do to care for your coffeemaker even further is to begin to use distilled water for all of your brewing cycles, which will not only improve your taste but the function of your machine. The issue with lime scale is that it will certainly affect the taste of your coffee, but it will also corrode the heating mechanisms and other elements so that your coffee will not be able to be brewed to the appropriate temperature. It can even go so far as to clog components of your machine so that your coffee maker ceases to work completely.

One thing to add is that certain brands of coffee makers will have directions from the manufacturer that you must follow in order to keep your warranty valid, so please heed those for your coffee maker care. Other than that, you need to get on the way to descaling your coffeemaker so you are back to sipping the best Java possible every single day! Start out with your coffeemaker at room temperature, meaning that it has not yet been used for the day. Put a new filter into the drip brew area, and fill your coffee pot halfway with distilled water and white vinegar. Brew this mixture through your coffeemaker, and dump out the liquids completely when the process is finished. Complete this cycle two more times. After that, let your coffeemaker cool, and replace that filter with a new one. Clean out your coffee pot, and add fresh distilled water, which you will then brew in one cycle through your coffeemaker. Dump out those liquids when you're finished. Again, repeat this process two times. It may be a wise move to make one more pot of coffee that you will throw away so that there is no remaining vinegar taste in your brew. The good news in all of that is that you are completely descaling and removing lime deposits from your machine to create a better tasting coffee for your own enjoyment!

Make sure that you are using no more than a 50% vinegar ratio because it will be nearly impossible to get that taste out of your machine otherwise. This is something that you will want to do every three months to keep your machine in mint condition and your coffee tasting oh so fine. Many people neglect to care for their coffee machinery and devices, and they are suffering because of it. Don't let this be you!

Buy Coffee Direct For Better Quality and Lower Prices

You probably don't think about it much but the chances are, the coffee beans used in your morning cup o' joe have passed through as many as five or six different middlemen on their way to your mug. All that passing from hand to hand adds to the price and subtracts from the quality of your cup. There's a better way: you can do what I do and buy your coffee direct from the source!

Coffee direct from the source costs less

Did you know that by buying direct can actually cost less than buying coffee at the supermarket? All those middlemen certainly don't work for free. You can actually save money by buying it in bulk direct from the source. By "bulk" I mean at least 10 to 25 pounds at a time - this is where you start to see significant price discounts.

Coffee direct from the source gives you higher quality and better taste

If you're buying ground coffee from a supermarket, did you know that those coffee beans were ground months ago, and most of the flavor has already faded away? And even if you're buying whole bean, that coffee has waited in several warehouses for who knows how long before it was placed on the supermarket shelf. When you buy your coffee direct from the distributor, you know that the coffee is fresh, and you'll be able to taste and smell the difference.

Tips for buying

* Do some research: what kind of coffee do you like? Dark, smoky, and robust - or light, crip, and mild? Did you like that Sumatra you tried at the local coffee shop? A quick search for "Sumatra" on the internet will yield distributors who sell Sumatra coffee to the public. Contact the distributor closest to you and start enjoying fresher Sumatra right away!

* Coffee is at its peak flavor right after the beans have been roasted. In some areas you might be able to find a good coffee roaster in your area, but even if you can't find one nearby you can always find one on the internet and have the coffee shipped to you.

* Don't buy more coffee than you can consume within one month - coffee beans begin to lose their flavor after this time.

* For many coffee aficionados, going through 10 to 25 pounds of coffee in a month is no problem, but if you think this might be too much for you consider sharing an order with a friend.

* Coffee tastes its best when brewed right after grinding, so buy your beans whole and invest in a good coffee grinder - unless you know it was ground very recently and you plan to consume it soon. (Still, nothing beats grinding it at home and brewing immediately after!)

So if you really savor the aroma and taste of a great cup of java, wait until you try it at its peak - right after roasting - when you buy it direct from a distributor. Give it a try today!

The Power of Coffee

The wonderful aroma, the heavenly flavors, the warm felling of true bliss with every sip, we all know of the many excellent qualities of a great cup of coffee, however, I have found a higher power that can come from your favorite Venti java. I believe it can change the world one cup at a time if you choose to follow me down the coffee bean road (with cream of course).

Time to be Honest
Honestly, I have only been a true coffee drinker for about 2 years. I was a staunch believer in my love for a morning diet Coke, which I still enjoy once in a while especially from McDonalds, where they do something magical to that diet Coke that makes me do back flips. I have always marveled at the delicious scents, aromas, and various flavors available when my beautiful wife made her daily pot of coffee. The problem was always taking that first sip and I just could not appreciate the taste to the same level of the erotic smell in the air.

Why I Converted
As I mentioned, I have always been a diet Coke fan, however, I always worried a bit about what it was doing to my teeth, body, stomach, health, etc. and finally just made a decision that I was going to make the switch of being a coffee drinker. I also have read a lot about the antioxidant effect of coffee and the fact that is much more organic, which has to be better for me-right? I tried the mocha's, latte's, and so on until I decided the way to go was simply ordering a medium coffee with 2 creams, which seems to give me the boost I need without adding pounds to the love handles. I can honestly say that I now look forward to my early morning coffee, paper, and little slice of heaven to start each day.

Where is the True Power of Coffee?
What I learned was that most coffee places have a frequent buyer card that they will click a credit for you with each purchase and for every 10 cups of coffee bought you get the 11th free. Every morning I get my coffee and get my card punched and throw the card in the arm rest of my car. Once in a while I would remember to pull out a card and use it for the free coffee which was fine but did not really give me the jolt of excitement I thought it would, until one day. That day changed my coffee buying and thoughts on things forever. I was in the usual car line up in the drive thru with 4-5 other cars and I looked in the rear view mirror of my car and I saw the Sister from my church driving in a tiny little compact car that looked a bit neglected in repairs, however, she did not seem to mind at all by the smile on her face. At that instant a thought popped in my head that this wonderful woman goes through her day doing so many wonderful things for so many and no one probably ever thanks her or even knows what she has done and wouldn't it be cool if I could do that for her right now. When it was my turn to pay I asked the attendant what the car behind me ordered and he said a large coffee so I handed him one of my fully punched frequent coffee cards and asked that he gave her my free coffee. I drove out of the parking quickly as I did not want her to see me, have time to track me down, or even know who paid. I just wanted it to be a small bit of kindness for her to start her day.

The Frequent Buyer Card is Alive

I am here to tell you that the true power of that little coffee frequent buyer card was felt like never before. I could only imagine how that random act of kindness put an even bigger smile on her face and how many more people she would probably help that day from the wonderful work she does. It also gave me a smile as I might have been able to make a small difference in someone's life that day by using the coffee frequent buyer card that meant so little to me until that moment. Now I cherish every frequent buyer card I get and always look in my rear view mirror when I am in line to see whose day I can make a little better by just paying for their cup of coffee. I urge you to try this and change your own life instantly but more important someone else's day, which if paid forward can change our world one cup of coffee at a time.

Coffee's Bad Rap Came From Cigarettes - Coffee's Actually Not Bad

Get this: for many years scientists claimed that drinking coffee was responsible for all kinds of ailments and illnesses, and they were wrong. In actuality most of the ailments were caused by the cigarettes on which most of the coffee drinkers were puffing. It turns out that coffee and cigarettes are habits that go hand-in-hand for many people, a factor that the studies did not take into account.

Not that coffee is as healthy as, say, a drink from an unpolluted spring high in the mountains. It's not. The caffeine from coffee can be addictive, and those who drink coffee on a regular basis will find that quitting can be somewhat painful. In addition, coffee can be a bladder irritant and disturb your sleep. People who drink a lot of coffee are also at greater risk for developing osteoporosis.

Health Benefits of Coffee

On the other hand, coffee also has its health benefits. Aside from a mild (and sometimes useful jolt) here are a few:

Reduced Suicide Rates

Caffeinated substances act like mild antidepressants. According to the Nurses' Healthy Study, suicide rates 50% less among coffee drinkers than among those who don't drink coffee.

Decreased Chance of Gallstone Development

Although researchers are not sure why, coffee-drinkers are less prone to gallstones than non-coffee drinkers. Part of the reason may be that coffee stimulates the gallbladder to contract regularly, and this movement may not allow gallstones to form. Caffeine also slows the crystallization of cholesterol, which is part of the how gallstones form.

Less Risk of Type-2 Diabetes

According to the Stockholm Diabetes Prevention Program, people who regularly drink significant amounts of coffee (5 or more cups per day) are less likely to develop this kind of diabetes than those who drink 2 cups or fewer.

Like red wine, dark chocolate, and the egg, coffee is making a comeback as a substance that isn't totally sinful, and actually has health benefits. As with everything we put into our bodies, "moderation in all things, even moderation" is a fabulous motto to follow!
